Looking to the Future

The Liz Fust Community Fund
Hope for a Brighter Future for People with Spinal Cord Injuries

At Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare, our goals for the future have focus and impact--putting patients and our community at the center of all we do. With your help, we will:

  • Enhance patient care by funding capital improvements for facilities & medical equipment;
  • Educate health caregivers by funding scholarships & educational assistance programs;
  • Fund leading edge medical research that has regional and international impact;
  • And, improve access to quality health care through community outreach initiatives.

Specifically, Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare and its philanthropic Foundation are focused on raising funds for the following community priorities over the next two years:

Enhance Patient Care

  • The Transplant Center at Jewish Hospital - $2-3 million over three years
  • Emergency Department Expansion at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville - $1.9 million
  • Our Lady of Peace Psychiatric Treatment Center for Children & Teens - $1.9 million
  • Emergency Department Expansion at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital - $2 million

Leading Edge Medical Research

  • Cardiovascular and Transplantation Research at the University of Louisville - $1.2 million
  • Neuroscience Research at Frazier Rehab Institute - $500,.000

Serving in a leadership role in the community also means being a catalyst for cutting edge medical research. That’s why part of the Foundation’s endowment is dedicated to helping support innovative research initiatives of medical faculty at the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine. Funding for these priorities is generated by interest and earnings from the Foundation’s permanent endowment which was created largely through the generosity of many individual donors. In 2007, the Foundation will provide support totaling more than $1.2 million for research at UofL’s School of Medicine, with a special focus on the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute and Transplantation studies. Investing in clinical research is just another example of the Foundation’s on-going investment in the health and future welfare of our community.

Access to Quality Health Care

  • West Louisville Diabetes & Outreach Clinic - $500,000
  • Americana Community Center Health Clinic - $150,000

Mission & Program Support

  • $1.6 million

Our final priority is general mission and program support for the entire Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare network. Our mission is simple: “In consonance with our Jewish & Catholic beliefs, traditions and heritage of service, it is the Mission of JHSMH to provide health care services of world class quality to all people.”  Unrestricted gifts are critical to help us meet this mission as we continue to aspire to be the best health care system in America, achieving excellence and improving the lives of those we serve and who serve.  You help make it happen.

Your Support Will Make a Difference

Together, these critical areas of the Foundation’s focus represent the need to raise almost $11 million in 2007 alone.  But really, it’s not about the funding needs–it’s all about meeting the medical care needs of the community by reaching further to enhance patient care and access to quality services, as well as educating the next generation of health caregivers and undertaking leading edge medical research in our own backyard.

With your leadership and support we can fulfill these goals and move the entire community forward. And when you, a loved one, anyone in the community is in need–you can count on Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare to be there to give the highest level of care possible, delivered with care and compassion.
